Grand Canyon National Park: South Rim Trail
A good friend of mine from Poland was visiting the United States for the first time, so we decided to meet up in Phoenix and head to the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas together for a couple of days.
I had briefly visited the Grand Canyon a couple of years ago back in the summer of 2014 as a pit stop on my move from Texas to California, but going there will never get old!
We started out hiking the easy South Rim Trail and found that quite leisurely so we moved onto tackling the Bright Angel Trail shortly into our hike.
Despite the warm weather and bright sunshine the day brought, being mid-March parts of the Bright Angel Trail that largely sits in the shadow for the better part of the day was still iced over. The patches of ice made sections of the trail more challenging that it would otherwise be.
We started down the trail pretty late into the afternoon, but we made it to the 1.5 mile rest stop and decided to turn back to hike back up the trail (which was definitely quite a bit more challenging than hiking down). As it was getting later in the evening, we tried to make it to Hopi Point to catch the sunset. We didn’t quite make it all the way there but we still managed to find a point nearby for a great view!
